Even though it's from the 16 Bit era, I still think Final Fantasy VI has the best video game soundtrack ever. Maybe it's nostalgia from when I was a kid, but nothing hits home to me more than when I listen to this soundtrack, especially Dancing Mad.

What are your guys favorite video game soundtracks?

Final Fantasy VI had an amazing soundtrack, no doubt.
I happen to prefer the mystical nature of Yasunori Mitsuda/Nobuo Uematsu's Chrono Trigger soundtrack.
Uematsu and his band (Black Mages, I believe) performed a concert of live remixes in an acid-jazz style, called the Brink of Time remixes. Pretty amazing stuff.

I definitely agree with you about Chrono Trigger, that is on my Top 5 list for sure.

I'll see if I can find any of his live remixes in acid-jazz, it sounds pretty sweet! Smile

I'd say Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Trigger and Atelier Iris Eternal Mana.

I guess everyone knowns about the first 2, but the third is a nice PS2 RPG with anime-like graphics and WHICKED music, it is basically a mix of modern pop/rock/soul and traditional japanese music. Unforgettable and unique sountrack really. (the game is really good too).

I'm always looking for new RPG's to play so thanks for the heads up on Atelier Iris Eternal Mana! I hadn't even heard of it before...

Yeah, it's not a big well known title, but it's a masterpiece IMO. There is two sequels, but I never found copies of them :(

Also I'd want to say I forgot to mention Castlevania. I LOVE music from the CV series, both the old and the recent titles are whicked. Someo of the best music ever.

You know, I never got into Castlevania though I had plenty of friends who were into it. I still remember playing the first one when I was a kid and thinking "This is way to hard, screw this!", LOL. Maybe I should give it another shot.

Castevania 1 is very hard, especially the grim reaper level which is almost impossible.

However, Castlevania 2 is very easy with a walkthrough (and impossible without one), and Castlevania 3 and 4 are just perfect (the 3 becomes insanely hard on the last few levels, but you can have a lot of fun before that).

The recent CVs aren't as hard BTW. And the music alone makes them a must play.

BTW it's not very fun of a message board if we're just 2 guys on it... hopefully more people will join.

Well, since I've launched this site last Friday I've had lots of visitors but only 7 people sign up (almost 1 a day). So hopefully after a month or so it'll start to kick into high gear. It'll take some time, but I do want to thank you for participating! Smile

Very tough to pick just one fave soundtrack, but I'd say Nobuo Uematsu is easily my favourite VG composer, pieces from VI, VII, IX and X especially.

Other notable favourites include the soundtrack to Ecco the Dolphin (Sega CD version), Harry Gregson Williams' work on the Metal Gear games and Inon Zur (Baldur's Gate, Fallout 3, New Vegas, etc.)
